India and the European Union have renewed their commitment to deepen strategic cooperation in next-generation digital technologies, with a strong focus on secure 6G telecommunications and resilient digital infrastructure. The partnership reflects a shared ambition to develop trusted, interoperable, and future-ready digital ecosystems that can support global connectivity and innovation.

The renewed momentum was highlighted in the Leaders’ Statement issued during the February 2025 visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU College of Commissioners to India. Both sides emphasised the growing strategic importance of advanced and emerging technologies under the India–EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), particularly in areas such as telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and global technology standards.

A key development under this cooperation is the collaboration between the Bharat 6G Alliance and the European Union’s 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G SNS IA). This partnership aims to align research and innovation priorities for secure and trusted 6G networks, while supporting the development of resilient and diversified global telecom supply chains. Openness, interoperability, and security have been identified as core principles guiding this joint effort.

The initiative also places strong emphasis on cooperation in research and development, testing, and standardisation of 6G technologies. India and the EU reiterated their shared objective of shaping globally interoperable standards that encourage innovation, competitiveness, and inclusive digital growth across regions.

This collaboration aligns closely with India’s national 6G vision led by the Department of Telecommunications, which seeks to position the country as a global contributor and leader in future communication technologies. Officials noted that the partnership would help ensure secure, affordable, and sustainable digital infrastructure for both citizens and industry.

The strengthened cooperation is further linked to the Joint India–EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda Towards 2030, endorsed at the 16th India–EU Summit held in New Delhi in January 2026. Together, these initiatives underline a shared commitment to building a secure, trusted, and resilient global digital ecosystem for the benefit of the international community.
